🚩 Local Area Attractions / Amenities: The campground was very well maintained with a large staff. Lone Oak has multiple themed weekends throughout the year, and many of their guests are seasonal and/or take advantage of the various packages that the campground offers throughout the year. During our stay, they had a Jurassic themed weekend with reptile show, many other activities for all ages to include a live band in the lounge Saturday night. In talking with various guests and staff, this was the norm and not the exception. This is easily one of the top 5 best staffed locations we’ve stayed, and top 3 for event planning. We couldn’t believe both the amount and variety of activities Lone Oak coordinates on any given weekend.
✏️ Additional Notes / Review: This visit was primarily for Christy to catch-up with one of her oldest friends. We truly enjoyed our stay at Lone Oak Campsites. We have never visited a campground with such an active events list and well planned themed weekends. After speaking with several employees and re-occurring visitors, this seems to be the norm. Thier theme the week we visited was Jurassic. We were able to participate in events from a live reptile show to finding out what the fossil dig was all about. Both kids and adults were able to participate in the dig, with children excavating and parents assembling wooden dinosaurs that stood over 6-feet tall! The surrounding towns and area also present various opportunities to explore, hike, shop and eat. There are several trails to hike, all unique in their own way. In Norfolk, we found Whiting Mills (a former hosiery mill) that now provides space to retailers and artists. We also visted the American Mural Project which was quite informative. There are several breweries and distilleries in the area to explore as well. We visited Norbrook Farm Brewery and enjoyed some great beer, stone fired pizza and beautiful sunset views. Theres also Great Falls Brewing Company in Canaan. Last, but not least, make sure to visit Freund’s Farm Market & Bakery! It’s just down the road from Lone Oak, and you’ll most likely make several return trips during your stay. I’m addicted to their apple cider donuts…
